It was a Super Full Moon last night. Traditionally, a full Moon in July is called the Buck Moon because a buck’s antlers are in full growth mode at this time. This full Moon is also known as the Thunder Moon because thunderstorms are so frequent during this month. The velvety antlers of male deer which first begin to sprout in early spring finish growing as summer peaks. They form pointed tips and harden into their final glory. For farmers, high summer is the time to cut and cure hay to put away for winter feed. For this reason, July’s full Moon is also known as the Full Hay Moon. Photos by Tony Fernandes.
