Blue Moon - Sturgeon Moon - Seasonal Blue Moon

Blue Moon - Sturgeon Moon - Seasonal Blue Moon

The second of two full moons in a calendar month, or the third of four full moons in a single season, are called Blue Moons. To put it in a humorous note, sometimes, that is to say  - once in a blue moon - the moon is FULL twice in a month (or four times in a season). So this year the third full moon is on 22nd August which qualifies it to be called a Blue Moon, while the fourth full moon of the season is on 20th September 2021. August’s full Moon is traditionally called the Sturgeon Moon because the giant sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain were most readily caught during this part of summer.
