When a country's name ends with 2 vowels,
an 'n' is added to indicate
a national from that country.

Thus, a person from Goa becomes Goan,

and a .....person from

                  Samoa        -  Samoan    (not Samoanese)

                  Australia    -  Australian (not Australianese)
                  Syria           -  Syrian       (not Syrianese)

Allegedly, the British in the colonial days, who were very fond of the Goans, and considered them as an educated, gentle, law-abiding, faithful and loyal people, in all professions, apparently coined the term Goanese, calling the Goans 'Goanese', whether in fondness, jest or otherwise, whether knowing fully well or not knowing the application of the demonym formula, I am not sure.
