The Full Moon in March is the Worm Moon, and it is usually considered the last Full Moon of winter. It is also called Lenten Moon, Crow Moon, Crust Moon, Chaste Moon, Sugar Moon, and Sap Moon. It was given the name super worm moon as it coincides with the spring equinox, when the length of day and night are almost the same. Worms are said to emerge from the soil around this time. ONCE IN A BLUE MOON

TONIGHT I SAW A BLUE MOON RISING!

According to modern folklore, a Blue Moon is the second full moon in a calendar month. Usually every month we have only one full moon, but occasionally a second one gets in. This July has already had one full moon on July 2nd which I had an opportunity to photograph from an evening cruise in Kingston, Ontario. As we all know full moons are separated by 29 days, while most months are 30 or 31 days long; so it is possible at times to fit two full moons in a single month. This happens every two and a half years or so. I took these photographs last night in Caledon, Ontario, at 8.38 pm. But the moon, once in a blue moon, isn't always blue. This time it was yellowish-orange, but I made it blue using a blue filter. This feast to my eyes, however, was short-lived as the clouds soon rolled in and took over the skies! I'll see you Yellow Moon, once in a blue moon!
