IN MEMORIAM - DONALD ELWOOD EVANS

IN MEMORIAM

I'm sad today to hear about
the passing away of Mr. Donald Elwood Evans.
My heartfelt sympathies go out
to all bereaved family members.
May fond memories that you all once shared
in happier times in the days gone by bring you comfort.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.

I've been very fortunate to have met Don Evans
during the time when my wife and I attended
Lori and Dave's wedding in Medford, Oregon.
We also had the opportunity to visit him at his place.
He took great pride to show us his impressive

and extensive memorabilia over the years

that he kindly and proudly let me photograph.

The unique, exuberant and cheerful way in which he told
about his life's experiences had me spellbound.
The photographic collection on the walls said it all
and bore testimony to his narrative
with a dash of humor and wit thrown in -
from the tub bass he made
to horses and classic automobiles.
It was like being in a museum
of a life that he happily lived to the full
and a family he dearly loved
- a life of a true gentleman -
gone, but not forgotten.

We will miss you.

REST IN HEAVENLY PEACE
MR. DON EVANS

The Legend of Artaban, the Fourth King

Three Kings

The Legend of
Artaban,
the Fourth King

Who was the fourth wise man?
Was there one?

There is a legend, however, that there was a ‘Fourth Wise Man’, whose name was Artaban.

It is not my intention to publicize or to give credit to this story. Apparently, it is an imaginary creation in a short novel, or long short story, by Henry van Dyke. This story has no mention in the Holy Bible.

It tells about a "fourth" wise man (accepting the tradition that the Magi numbered three), a priest of the Magi named Artaban, one of the Medes from Persia. Like the other Magi, he sees signs in the heavens proclaiming that a King had been born.

Artaban was a Persian King whose study of the planets and the stars led him to predict the birth of the King of kings. It is said that he sold everything he possessed and purchased ‘a large sapphire blue as a fragment of the night sky, a flawless ruby redder than a ray of sunrise, and a lustrous pearl as pure as the peak of a snow mountain at twilight’ which he intended to carry as tribute to this King of kings. He then set out for Jerusalem, where he had arranged to meet up with the three other Wise Men, or Magi, Balthazar, Melchior and Gaspar, to find this newborn King. Apparently, he never made it, and instead, sold his precious gem and gave the proceeds to the poor.

Happy New Year 2020

Fotosearch_k73824073
HAPPY NEW YEAR
2020
to all my friends.

May our '20-20 Vision'
 be one of peace,
free from hatred,
 turmoil, war and natural disasters.
It's that time again we bid farewell
to yet another completed year
and bring in a new one.
 Let us think of those
who are not with us today
to share in the happy moments

of the years gone by.
