Strawberry Moon

MOONwhile in Mississauga last night, the Strawberry Super Moon showed up in all its blazing glory, which gets its name from the wild strawberries that start to ripen during early summer. Other names for this Full Moon are Rose Moon, Hot Moon, and Mead Moon. In India, according to the Indian full moon calendar 2022, a full moon in June is memorably known as Jyeshtha Purnima (May/June). As on this auspicious day, married women observe fast for the longevity of their husband’s life. And as well as for the prosperity and happiness in their married life. Photos by Tony Fernandes.

STRAWBERRY MOON IN JUNE

 

STRAWBERRY MOON in June last evening was hard to capture. The sky was cloudy as the full Moon rose gently above the horizon. June’s full Moon - typically the last full Moon of spring or the first of summer - is traditionally called the Strawberry Moon. This name has been used by Algonquin, Ojibwe, Dakota, and Lakota peoples, among others, to mark the ripening of strawberries that are ready to be gathered.
