Tonferns Rhapsody (20) - Around the World

I have always been fascinated with the sounds, rhythms, scales and instruments from different parts of the world.

You could find me at my favourite music store in Dubai every Thursday after work looking at the new releases and asking the sales rep about the newest collections that had come in.

Once I immigrated to Canada, I continued this tradition and introduced my friends and family to my favourites from Greek and Irish folk, Reggae music to Spanish Flamenco, Portuguese Fados to Brazilian Bossa-novas and more. My collection would also include some Indian classical and Arabic selections.

For your upcoming weekend, I have put together some of my favourites to take you on a trip around the world! 🌎 Visa issued by Tonferns Rhapsody! Let’s go!

If you like my collections, feel free to subscribe to my YouTube channel and tag your friends and family in the comments below and SHARE away!

Tonferns Rhapsody (18) - Heart Strings

This Friday’s “Tonferns Rhapsody Heart Strings” playlist puts together my favourite acoustic and electric guitar instrumentals!

As a DJ or even playing host in my home, I always spun soothing instrumentals over the dinner portion of an event in order to let guests speak with ease over the music to one another.

Be sure to share, like and subscribe to my YouTube channel! As always, wishing you a lovely and safe weekend ahead.

Hunter's Moon, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

The Hunter's Moon rose last night, marking the first full moon of the fall season following the Harvest Moon in the Northern Hemisphere. After playing the usual game of hide and seek through some patches of light clouds, the Moon finally let me take its portrait shot, before finally hiding away in dense clouds for the night, briefly giving me the role of a hunter.

According to popular belief and almanac reports, the moon was named the Hunter's Moon because it signaled the time to go hunting in preparation for cold winter months. But the moon itself is simply the first full moon to follow the Harvest Moon, which is the full moon nearest to the autumnal equinox for the Northern Hemisphere. The equinox is typically September 22 or 23. So most Harvest Moons come in September. But, every three years, the Harvest Moon falls in early October and the Hunter’s Moon in November.

Autumn in Northern Hemisphere Starts Today

Dominique Appia - Swiss Surrealist Painter

In my quest in solving the mystery about this surreal painting that we saw at Willowood Camp, I found out that the artist is Dominique Appia, a Swiss surrealist painter. I had taken a close-up photo of the fine-print on the edge of this painting and when I looked it up close after getting home, I was amazed to see the one above among other paintings by him on Google. His art is mind-boggling and fascinating.

In a rather very uncanny aspect, here's one intriguing depiction in the phenomenal painting above in which the artist leaves it to the viewer to figure out. Notice the painting of the 'Leaning Tower of Pisa' within the painting? Well, it seems the artist himself is not happy with the painting showing the famous tower at a tilted angle. So, he tilts the painting instead, in a rather witty way keeping the 'Leaning Tower of Pisa' upright!

Apparently, the image above is one of his best-known works entitled "Entre les trous de la memoire",  in English "Between the Holes in the Memory" by this intriguing and little-known artist. Dominique Appia's paintings are based mainly on the elements: air, water, fire and earth as one can see in the painting above. Some Indian artists do the same I believe. The Indian Zodiac signs are an example - a set of 4 (air, water, fire, earth x 3 = 12 months.

Dominique Appia (29 July 1926 – 8 January 2017) was a Swiss painter based in Geneva. His paintings depict imaginative scenarios of cities, landscapes and interiors where familiar elements are juxtaposed as in a dream: a cathedral becomes a railway station, the Mediterranean gushes up from the Paris Metro, and a room with disappearing children is invaded by different world environments. "Entre les trous de la memoire", in English "Between the Holes in the Memory", is the best known image by this intriguing and little-known artist.

His dreamlike paintings are often mistaken for the work of Salvador Dalí.
